DCHS Track teams host region event

Dawson County High School hosted the Region 7-AAA boys and girls track meet last week.

The top four finishers in each event advanced to the State Sectionals at SE Bulloch High School in Brooklet. The event will be Saturday.

If one of the top four cannot participate, then the fifth place finisher will have the chance to replace that person.

The White County Lady Warriors captured the region championship with a two-day total of 158.5 points. North Hall was the region runner-up with a total of 139 points. The Lady Tigers finished in fifth place as a team with 67 points.

Dawson County girls that will advance to the sectional event are: Hayden Wilson and Savannah Haberkam in discus, Jordan Moore - high jump, Savannah Haberkam - shot put, Carly Gilreath - 200 meters, Katelynn Simpson - 300 meter hurdles, and the 4x400 team of Caroline Lee, Camryn Geiger, Katelynn Simpson and Carly Gilreath.

Moore finished in second place in the high jump with a leap of 5'0."

Finishing fifth and in an alternate postion are: Gilreath - 100 meters, Sadie Hardesty - 100 meter hurdles, and the 4x100 relay team of Gilreath, Geiger, Simpson and Brooke Duffy.

On the boys side, Buford won the team championship with 162 points.

North Hall finished in second place with 135 points barely outdistancing third place finisher White County with 133 points. Dawson finished in seventh place with 30 points as a team.

Qualifying for sectionals was Cory Jenkins in the pole vault.

Backups this Saturday with fifth place finishes will be: Jesse Gee with the high jump and Dylan Forrester in the 3,200 meters.
