Dawson County swimmers place in Dalton, Adairsville, Cumming

The Dawson County High School swim team recently traveled to Dalton to compete against Coahulla Creek, Heritage, Southeast Whitfield and Pickens. The Jan. 6 meet saw many Dawson swimmers place high in their respective events.

“This meet was a great way to start back after Christmas Break,” said Coach Linda Sperin. “We had a few swimmers that were gone the entire break and this was a fun meet for us to participate in. Nathan Frazier and Garrett Perez both swam six events. They were great sports about it but were worn out.”

According to Sperin, the boys placed second out of the five teams. Currently the team consists of eight boys and three girls.

The 200 Yard Medley Relay consisting of Carter Rexroat, Logan Starr, Garrett Perez and Hayden Starr placed sixth. This is the first time these swimmers swam this event together.

The 200 Yard Co-Ed Medley Relay placed fifth. The relay team was made up of Kara Starr, Anna Mulberry, Grace Shippey and Nathan Frazier.

Will Mulberry placed fifth out of seven in the 200 Yard Freestyle. This was Mulberry’s first time competing in this event. 

Nathan Frazier placed fourth in the 200 Yard Individual Medley. Frazier started competing in this event just recently. 

Garrett Perez, Logan Starr and Hayden Starr placed 12th, 13th and 14th in the 50 Yard Freestyle.

Kara Starr placed ninth out of 28 in the Girls 50 Yard Freestyle. Anna Mulberry placed 15th.

Matthew Wood placed first in the 100 Yard Freestyle out of 14. Will Mulberry placed third, Garrett Perez placed sixth, Logan Starr eighth, Nathan Frazier ninth, Carter Rexroat 10th and Hayden Starr 13th.

Kara Starr placed seventh out of 17 in the Girls 100 Yard Freestyle. Grace Shippey placed 15th. 

The 200 Yard Freestyle Relay consisting of Will Mulberry, Garrett Perez, Nathan Frazier and Matthew Wood placed fourth and the relay of Carter Rexroat, Garrett Perez, Logan Starr and Hayden Starr placed seventh. 

The 200 Yard Co-Ed Freestyle Relay placed fifth. This relay was made up of Kara Starr, Anna Mulberry, Grace Shippey and Nathan Frazier. 

In the 100 Yard Backstroke Matthew Wood placed second, Carter Rexroat seventh and Garrett Perez eighth.

Grace Shippey placed 13th in the Girls 100 Backstroke.

Anna Mulberry placed eighth in the Girls 100 Breaststroke. 

Will Mulberry, Garrett Perez, Nathan Frazier and Matthew Wood placed first in the 400 Freestyle Relay, the first time they competed in this event this year.

On Jan. 9 the team traveled to Adairsville for a Tri-Meet with Cass High School and Southeast Whitfield High School.

The 200 Yard Medley Relay consisting of Carter Rexroat, Nathan Frazier, Matthew Wood and Will Mulberry placed second.

The Girls 200 Yard Medley Relay consisting of Kara Starr, Anna Mulberry and Grace Shippey placed fourth.  Kara Starr had to swim twice since the team only has three girls. 

Will Mulberry placed first in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:31.39, almost 10 seconds faster than he swam just three days earlier. 

Nathan Frazier placed second in the 200 Yard Individual Medley.

In the 50 Yard Freestyle Matthew Wood placed first, Will Mulberry fourth, Carter Rexroat sixth and Garrett Perez seventh. 

Kara Starr placed third, Anna Mulberry sixth and Grace Shippey 20th in the Girls 50 Yard Freestyle. 

In the 100 Yard Butterfly Matthew Wood placed first.

In the 100 Yard Freestyle, Will Mulberry placed third, Nathan Frazier fifth and Carter Rexroat placed sixth.

In the Girls 100 Yard Freestyle, Kara Starr placed third and Grace Shippey 10th. 

In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay DCHS placed second.  The team members were Carter Rexroat, Nathan Frazier, Matthew Wood, and Will Mulberry.

The Girls 200 Yard Freestyle Relay placed third.  The swimmers were Kara Starr who swam twice, Anna Mulberry and Grace Shippey.

Garrett Perez placed first in the 100 Yard Backstroke.

Grace Shippey placed 12th in 100 Yard Backstroke.  She shaved four seconds off of her time from three days prior. 

Anna Mulberry placed second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke.

The DCHS swim team had a great meet at the Cumming Aquatic Center Jan. 13. Every swimmer had at least one personal best time. Out of 20 individual events, there were personal bests in 16 of them. In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay consisting of Garrett Perez, Will Mulberry, Nathan Frazier and Matthew Wood had a personal best time.
