Cross country teams run at Buford
Preparing for region meet

Head Coach Brian DeRose and his boys’ and girls’ cross country teams are preparing for the Region 8-AA meet this weekend at Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville. In a tune-up for the region meet, Dawson ran against five other schools in a race at Buford High School last Wednesday, Oct. 21.

  

The girls’ team placed in second place behind North Forsyth. North Forsyth barely beat the Lady Tigers scoring 39 points to Dawson’s 45 points.

  

Sophomore Maddy Walters placed second behind Anna Sinclair of North Forsyth. Sinclair captured first place with a time of 19:59.90, while Walters was just behind her with a time of 20:05.80.

  

Emily Beusse also ran a great race for the Lady Tigers and finished in fifth place with a time of 22:30.30.

  

Lady Tiger Kerstin Hlinski crossed the finish line in eleventh place with a time of 23:59.40. She was followed by fellow Dawson runners Krista Morgan, 14th,

 

Morgan Williams, 16th, Rachael Gloeckner, 17th and Bethany Auten.

  

Rounding out the team scores were: Buford (sixth ranked in AA) in third with 78 points, Jackson County-86 points, Providence (ninth ranked in A) with 95 points and Forsyth Central with 174 points.

  

On the boys’ side, Dawson finished in fourth place in the team event with 109 points.

  

Tyler Thurmond led the Tigers with a 13th place finish in a time of 19:28.00.

  

Senior Logan Porter was just behind Thurmond in 14th place. Porter crossed the line with a time of 19:28.70.

  

Tiger teammates Luke Williamson, 18th, John Erickson, 31st, Chris Bywaletz, Johan Bishop and Zach Yarborough also had good runs in the 3.1-mile course.

  

Winning the race was Cameron Thornton of Whitefield Academy with a time of 18:12.60.

  

Providence, #4 ranked in A, won the team event scoring 25 points.

  

Buford picked up a second place finish with 73 points. Buford is currently ranked #10 in AA. North Forsyth placed third with 73 points, Whitefield was fifth with 122 points. Jackson County, East Hall and Forsyth Central rounded out the team scores.
