Continuing to improve

Dawson County High School Head Coach Thad Burgess' basketball team continues to improve this summer.

Sporting a very young squad, the Tigers played in team camps at Birmingham-Southern University June 15-16 and at the University of Georgia June 20.

"I really like how we have competed the last two camps at Birmingham-Southern and UGA. We have begun to feel more comfortable and begin to play some without thinking so much," Burgess said.

The Tigers have just one senior on the team, which is mainly composed of freshman and sophomores with very little varsity experience.

"We still have real physical and experience problems, but that will only change as we get older. It has also been good that we have been away as a team with no distractions and can build some team chemistry and get to feel good around each other," Burgess said.

The last stop on this summer's camp schedule will be a team camp at Auburn University, Burgess' alma mater, on Friday and Saturday.

"Patience for us will be important, but they must be willing to continue to work after we finish summer team activities at Auburn next week," Burgess said.
