The Dawson County Tiger competitive cheerleading squad played host to its 14th annual Tiger Cheer Classic last Saturday in the Ford E. Phillips gymnasium.

The event turned out to be a great one, as the Lady Tigers came away with a first place finish in the AA classification.

Cheerleaders from all over North Georgia traveled to Dawsonville to show off their stunts and tumbling before a large crowd at Dawson County High School.

Twenty-six varsity squads were represented from classifications AA through AAAAA. There were also nine JV squads, eight middle school teams, and two co-ed squads scheduled to perform.

The event began shortly before 10 a.m.  and continued late into the afternoon. Cheerleading squads, parents and fans were scattered all over the Dawson campus throughout the day.

Dawson Coach Kim Fleming’s squads always perform a crisp and precise routine that is rivaled by none.

As was the case Saturday with her team capturing a first place finish ahead of second place Rockmart and third place Screven County.

Also participating in the AA classification were Jefferson, Buford and North Oconee.

Winner in the JV division was AAAAA Mill Creek. West Forsyth took second place and Loganville came in third.

In AAA, Lambert took home a blue ribbon with West Forsyth taking second and Johns Creek finishing third.

Loganville captured the first place prize in AAAA.

Habersham Central finished in second place in the classification.

Mill Creek finished first in the AAAAA classification with Alpharetta coming in second and South Forsyth taking a third place finish.

Dawson’s next competition will be this Saturday at Mill Creek.
