It was a busy and successful week for the Dawson County wrestling team.

Head Coach Arron Haynes' grapplers began the week with a Nov. 29 home match against Johnson and Monroe Area.

The week ended with a 2-day tournament at Towns County on Friday and Saturday.

The Tigers came away with two big wins over Johnson, 64-18, and Monroe Area, 48-36. With the two wins Dawson County is currently 3-1 in dual matches.

Dawson County then traveled to Towns County on Friday and Saturday for the King of the Mountain tournament. There were 16 schools that participated in the tournament.

The Tigers captured a sixth place finish after accumulating 141 team points.

Six wrestlers made it to the medal round.

James Evans finished in second place in the 126-pound weight group.

Travis Dawson, Cory Jenkins and Preston Adams captured third place medals, while Anthony Underwood and Josh Gee brought home some fourth place hardware.

Banks County won the team title with 225 points. The Leopards were followed by Lumpkin County, 197.5, narrowly finishing ahead of Cherokee, N.C. who tallied 197 points.

"The boys wrestled tough against Johnson and Monroe Area, showing lots of grit," Haynes said.

"This weekend started slow at Towns with a lot of byes and forfeits in the first round, but as the tournament progressed our boys really turned up the pace with six wrestlers making it to the medal round," he said.

"We were very excited to finish with a second, three thirds and two fourths. We had tried to make it back into the top five, but finished just outside with a sixth place finish."
