Dawson County High School safety Ethan Brown and kicker David Scully were named First Team All-Area by the Gainesville Times.

The All-Area team consists of teams that are covered in the Gainesville Times circulation area. It is an honor to be chosen because the team is made up of players in all classifications.

Brown led the Tigers in tackles from his safety position on defense. Brown, a sophomore, also saw time at quarterback for the Tigers.

“Ethan was a valuable part of our team this year,” said Tiger Head Football Coach Jeff Lee. “He made some big plays on defense for us.”

Scully was also named to the first team.

Scully, a senior, had some big kicks for the Tigers this season, which included a game-winner against Union County High School.

He is being recruited by several Division-I schools.

Lee remarked about his senior kicker, who also handled the punting chores, “David has had a great career for us. He works very hard and should contribute greatly at the next level. He sure has saved some big games for us over the last three years.”

The Tigers also placed two players on the All-Area second team. Running back/defensive back Cody Tobias and linebacker Stephen King were honored by being chosen.

Named honorable mention were; T.J. Bryd, Evan Weatherford, Zach Johnson and Eian Perry.

The Tigers finished the 2008 season with a record of 3-7.
