The Dawson County High School boys' track team had a great showing in the Region 7-AAA track meet in Dawsonville last week.

Tigers Jacob Poston and Rhys Adams captured the region titles in the 1,600-meters and pole vault, respectively.

Poston crossed the finish line with a time of 4:42 to take the title.

Adams vaulted a height of 12'0" to win his event easily.

Both will advance to the state sectionals Saturday at East Jackson High School for a chance to move on to the state finals.

The top four finishers in each event will advance to sectionals.

The fifth place region spot will serve as a backup in case of injury to anyone in the top four places.

Finishing as runners-up in their events were: Poston (800-meters), Christopher Shelp (3,200-meters) and Cole Smith (shot put).

Taking third place were the 4x400 relay team of Drew Albert, Rhys Adams, Rusty Chester and Poston. Cole Smith qualified in the discus.

Jakob Scoggins and Ben Umberger will be alternates for the 4x400 relay team.

Shelp finished fourth in the 1,600-meters.

Serving as alternates will be Garrett Carlisle (3,200-meters) and Duncan Korbor in the discus.

Dawson County fell short of third place as a team, losing out to West Hall who amassed 95 points to the Tigers 94 team points.

Winning the region crown was Banks County with 179 team points.

Region runners-up went to Franklin County with 135 points.
