The Dawson County High School boys tennis team opened the season with a 3-2 victory over visiting Fannin County last week. Fannin is in the Tigers region, however the match did not count toward region play.

Winning at singles was Spencer Roper with an 8-2 win.

“Spencer is one of our guys that has some experience under his belt and he played really well,” said Head Coach Chris Lundy.

John Branson and Conner Tarver won their doubles match by an 8-6 score.

Fannin forfeited its other double match to give Dawson the team win.

Cameron Millholland and Lane Venters lost their matches, but both were really close.

“I was really proud of Cameron and Lane. This was the first match ever for both of them. They couldn’t have played harder and held their own against experienced competition. The fact they are both freshmen gets us pretty excited about the future,” Lundy said.

Members of this year’s boys team are: Spencer Roper, Conner Tarver, John Branson, Mason Cox, Dakota Wood, Lane Ventors, Matt Jerzewski, Tyler Stoaks, Craig Butler, Ever Castillo, Cameron Millholland and Cole Waters.

The team will play host to Rabun County at 4 p.m. Thursday.
