The Dawson County High School varsity boys soccer teams was eliminated from the Class AAA state playoffs by St. Pius X, 5-0, on Friday at Stadium Field in Atlanta.

The Golden Lions have a rich history in boys soccer. The team was ranked in the ESPN FAB 50 last season. The team has won eight state championships, 25 region championships and 19 Final Fours.

St. Pius, ranked No. 1 in Class AAA, came into the game with a perfect 15-0-2 record. The Golden Lions established an organized attack early to build a 5-0 lead at halftime. Scoring for Coach David O'Shea's team were two goals by Tyler Alexander and JD Manzo, and a goal by Edmundo Robinson.

Coach Jed Lacey's Tigers kept St. Pius at bay in the second half but just couldn't push a goal by the Golden Lion keeper. The Golden Lion defense surrendered only six goals all season.

Dawson County finished the season with 75 goals and gave up 19 scores on defense.

Several Tigers had an outstanding year on offense, including Josh Lund, Brandon Lund, Sal Mendoza, Jose Miranda and Cole Edwards.

On defense the team was led by goalie Brooks Fulford and defender Gunnar Armstrong.

This year's seniors were: Armstrong, Miranda, Josh Lund and Chris Bywaletz.

Dawson County finished the season with a 13-4 overall record and a 5-2 mark in Region 7-AAA.
