The Dawson County High School Tiger golf team competed in the Region 7-AAA tournament last week at Mossy Creek Golf Course in Cleveland. Head Coach Wes Greer's team picked up a fourth place finish.

Dawson County carded a team score of 351, barely missing the qualifying score for the State Sectionals, which is a 340.

White County captured the region title with a 313. Buford finished second, 323, and North Hall was third at 328.

Tiger Levi Samples qualified for sectionals with the lowest individual score of a non-qualifying team. Samples shot an 85, which placed him in a tie for tenth place over the tough 18-hole course.

"He did not even know that he had qualified until I told him. He was feeling bad that the team had not made a 340. That was our goal all year and we knew we could do it. It just was not meant to be for us. I could not be more excited for Levi though. He is a senior and now he has the opportunity to shine at the highest level in the state," Greer said.

Greer said that Samples aims to improve his score at the state event.

"Levi hopes to improve on the 85 that he shot at Mossy Creek and place in the top 10 at state."

Samples will skip the State Sectionals and automatically qualify for the State Class AAA tournament at Reunion Golf Club on May 20 in Hoschton.

Scoring for Dawson County in the April 24 event were: Jake Phillips - 87, Clay Glover - 89, Casey Compton - 90, Will Anglin - 93 and John Pulley - 97.

Phillips finished in 14th place.
