The boys’ cross-country team finished its season with a seventh place overall finish at the Region 8-AA meet last Saturday at Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville.

It was also the last race for lone senior Seth Stowers.

Stowers came in 45th place with a time of 20:09.

Dawson was led by ninth grader Tyler Thurmond who crossed the finish line with a time of 18:45 and a respectable 16th place.

Sophomore Luke Williamson also ran a good race for the Tigers. Williamson turned in a time of 18:51 and a 19th place finish.

Logan Porter (21st), Stephen Scaife (27th), Jonah Bishop (53rd) and Cody Reidling (54th) also ran well for the Tigers.

Winning the region was North Oconee with a score of 44 team points.

East Jackson (74 points) and Banks County (94 points) rounded out the top three teams.

Ian Wrags from North Oconee won the individual region title with a time of 17:09.

Runner-up was Jorge Diaz from Banks County with a time of 17:11.

“The boys’ side was really strong,” remarked Coach Brian DeRose.

“We turned in some pretty good times but it wasn’t good enough. I thought Stephen (Scaife) ran well. He turned in his fastest time of the season by just over a minute. We will miss Seth who has been in the program for four years now. He will be hard to replace, but we have a solid framework for years to come,” he added.
