The Dawson County High School varsity Lady Tigers softball team entered the last week of the regular season with two Region 7-AAA games.

The team played North Hall on Monday and will square off against No. 1 ranked Buford on Wednesday.

In between the team traveled to Jasper to play non-region foe Pickens County today.

Head Coach Jimmy Pruett's team entered the week with a 13-6-1 record and a No. 3 ranking in the state in Class AAA.

The Lady Tigers won their only game of the week last week with an 8-0 victory over West Hall at Jack Waldrip Field in Dawsonville.

Samantha Moulder plated the first run after reaching base via a walk in the second inning.

Dawson County erupted in the third inning with six runs to put the game out of reach.

Jenna Abbot, Joy Lewis, Emily Hunsucker and Tabitha Morrison all had hits in the big inning.

The final Lady Tiger run came in the fourth inning after Hunsucker doubled and eventually scored.

Junior pitcher Martie Rogers had a 5-inning, complete game shutout. Rogers finished the game with six strikeouts and only two walks.

"We played errorless ball defensively behind Martie," Pruett said. "Scoring those seven runs in the third inning really helped. Martie pitched a great game."

Dawson County had 10 hits in the win.

Abbott and Morrison each had two hits to lead the team offensively.

Buford enters today's game with an 18-1 record.

The first round of the Region 7-AAA tournament will be held at East Hall High School on Saturday.

The tournament will continue on Monday.

Game times had not been released as of press time.
