BASKETBALL: Lady Tigers lose Holiday Hoops finale, Tigers victorious against Johns Creek

The Lady Tigers lost 70-45 to the 6-A Sequoyah Chiefs on Dec. 29 in the championship game of the Dawson Holiday Hoops Classic. 

Maddie Anglin and Abby Slaton led the Lady Tigers with 10 points scored. Anglin also led the team with six rebounds. Kirklyn Porter led with four assists and four steals. Sequoyah is ranked #11 in 6-A girls basketball by high school sports website MaxPreps. 

The Tigers championship game against Rockdale County was canceled due to COVID-19. However, the team won their non-region game 65-50 against Johns Creek High School the following day on Dec. 30. 

Jake Craft scored 25 points, leading the Tigers. Joakeim Celestin scored 15 and slammed three dunks during the game. Tigers head coach Todd Cottrell said he thought the team played very well at times throughout the game. 

Both the Tigers and the Lady Tigers will resume their season on Jan. 5 against region opponent North Hall. 

The Lady Tigers lost their only other region game so far this season and the Tigers are 1-1 in region play. The games at North Hall start at 6 p.m.
