BASKETBALL: Both Dawson County teams win home opener against Franklin County

Both the Tigers and the Lady Tigers won their 2020-2021 season home opener against Franklin County on Dec. 3. 

Lady Tigers

Maddie Anglin scored 25 points in the Lady Tigers 68-47 victory over the Franklin County Lady Lions. 

The Lady Tigers started hot and ended the game on two big scoring runs. At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Tigers were leading 20-9. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Lions brought the game within 9 points, but Kirklyn Porter found Anglin wide open for a three-pointer that started an 18-4 Lady Tigers run for the last 4:42 left in the game. 


Abby Slaton led the team in rebounds with 9 and scored 11 points herself. Porter also collected 11 points and led the team with 4 assists. 

The Lady Tigers are now 4-1 on the season after beating Lanier on Tuesday night 63-30. Anglin scored another 21 points in that victory and is now averaging 21.6 points per game this season. 

Senior night for the Lady Tigers will be held on Saturday, Dec. 5 against Alcovy High School from Covington, Ga. The game starts at 3 p.m.

Tigers

The Tigers won their third game of the season after beating Franklin County 61-56 on Thursday night. 

The Lions kept the game close all night, but after a big third quarter the Tigers had an 11 point cushion going into the fourth quarter that helped them hold onto victory. Max Tierny and Joakeim Celestin made big free-throws at the end of the game to keep the lead. 

Celestin collected his first double-double of the season, scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds in the game. He was only five assists away from an impressive triple-double. 

“This feels great,” Celestin said after the game. “The atmosphere is different from my last high school for sure. I’m really liking it.”

Jake Craft led the team with 28 points scored and Luke Mullberry led the team with 11 rebounds. 

The Tigers also have senior night on Saturday, Dec. 3 against Alcovy High School. Their game will start at 4:30 p.m.
