Dawson County High School has signed another of its senior baseball players to a Rome college.

Logan Burt signed to Georgia Highlands College on Jan. 15, following in the steps of DCHS graduate David Chester's May 2013 signing.

Burt is the second athlete to sign this year from DCHS and second to sign with Georgia Highlands College for a baseball scholarship, according to Athletic Director Grady Turner.

"We're very excited to have Logan. One of the things we look for is makeup, the type of person he is. We talked to people around the school and players and they said: ‘You've got to get Logan Burt when you can,'" said Georgia Highlands Coach Mike Marra. "We're going to give him an opportunity to chase his greatness and I think he's going to help us, be an impact player ... with our program."

Burt's coaches at the high school were also excited about his opportunity.

"I've been here 11 years ... and everyone knows how much the Burt family means to Dawson County, especially Logan," said Coach Thad Burgess. "I think he's a great example of what we have here as the most special place in the state of Georgia."

Burt, who will attend Georgia Highlands after graduating from DCHS, said this is a dream come true for him.

"This is a dream I've had since I was barely able to stand up," he said. "I'd like to thank Georgia Highlands for the opportunity to pursue my dreams and my family for ... all the support."
