Banquet recognizes track athletes

The Dawson County track team held its awards banquet on May 20 at Veterans Memorial Park Pool in Dawsonville.

Coach Arron Haynes' team had more than 70 athletes participate on both the girls and boys team this year.

The highlight of the year was a fifth place finish in the discus by junior Hayden Wilson at the girl's state meet in Albany. Wilson set a new school record with a throw of 113'9" at the event.

Joining Wilson at the state meet was fellow discus thrower Kristy Martin.

Martin finished in 15th place with a throw of 90'5."

There were several other school records and personal bests set by each athlete during the past season.

Most Improved - Claudia Santillan; Best Runner - Savanna Estes; Best in Field Events - Hayden Wilson; and MVP - Kimberly Wallace.


Awards on the boys' side were:

Most Improved - Jake Hafermalz; Best Runner - Jonathon Erickson; Best in Field Events - Cory Jenkins; and MVP - Chris Sayler.


Fifteen seniors graduated:

Ariel Buttram, Samantha Sayler, James Evans, Kevin Spillane, Josh Gee, Josh Styles, Rachael Gloeckner, Michael Styles, Logan Lewis, Kimberly Wallace, Jonathan Mulberry, Madalyn Walters, Shelby Sage, Shelby Whitaker and Angelica Santillan.
