With the school year drawing to a close, the Dawson County News recognized the accomplishments made by 16 high school student-athletes at the third annual DCN Athlete of the Year event on Wednesday, May 17.

Wednesday night’s festivities began with a meal provided by Ruby’s Recipes, followed by a speech by former Lady Tigers basketball coach Steve Sweat.
After Sweat gave a spirited and meaningful address, the backdrop for a memorable night was set for the many families in attendance.
All 16 Tiger athletes — representing a wide variety of sports — were then called up to receive their certificates, after which the audience awaited the announcements of the two overall winners.
Abby Felkai and Kade Moledor were then announced as the two DCN Athletes of the Year, after each played an invaluable role in their respective teams.
Felkai fueled the volleyball team back to the state playoffs while Moledor contributed on both defense and offense to help lead the football team to a region championship.
Following all of the announcements, the players, coaches and families all had the chance to take photos together and enjoy the moment.
Of the 16 athletes nominated, which included a combination of seniors and juniors, four were repeat nominees and five are set to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level.
The DCN would also like to thank presenting sponsor John Megel Chevrolet/Ford.
