There are only 38 days left for the Dawson County Tigers before the team’s first regular season football game against Lumpkin County in Dahlonega.

Head Coach Jeff Lee and his team are busily preparing for that date, Aug. 28.

The Tigers recently returned from two passing camps at Brewton-Parker College in Mt. Vernon and Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C.

His Tigers continue to fine tune their passing attack with scrimmages at Gilmer County last Monday and against North Hall yesterday at Tiger Stadium.

“It gives us a chance to run routes against different opponents,” said Lee. “We try and work on situations and things that we need to get better at.”

Lee was interviewed at Presbyterian. When asked about whether he accomplished anything over the last three days, Lee responded: “Oh heck yes.

We found out about some receivers that we had question marks about. Our defensive coaches also got to take a look at some of our defensive backs. Camps like Presbyterian give us a chance, as coaches, to get away from home and it helps us build some bonding amongst our skill people on both sides of the ball.”

Using five different practice fields against some really good competition allowed the Tigers to improve on their offensive and defensive scheme, according to Lee.

Teams like Collins Hill, who defeated nationally ranked LaGrange last season, Grayson, Alpharetta, and 10 other teams from as far away as North Carolina competed at the camp.

“Today we just worked on what we would like to do on third down passing situations,” said Lee. “Everyday we tried to get better at some phase of our passing game. Our kids are a little tired right now, but we will give them the weekend off before we pass at Gilmer on Monday.”
