The Dawson County High School golf season is underway and the girls and boys coaches are pleased with the effort thus far.
"We are excited about the season and expect great things," said Frank Brown who coaches the boys' program.
The team has faced Elbert County as well as Chestatee High School and is currently 1-1 after the loss to Elbert.
"Hunter Burt continues to lead our team with low scores in both matches," Brown said.
Burt recently signed to play collegiate level golf in the fall with Truett McConnell University.
"Cullen Reed, Jackson Verhovan, Jeremiah Crumley and Campbell Reed are posting some good scores and are improving every week," he said.
On the girls' side, the team is also 1-1 with a loss to Elbert County during the opening match on Feb. 23.
Sydney Morgan posted a score of 41 during that match.
The Lady Tigers faced North Hall on March 9 and picked up a win after lowering the team score by 19 strokes.
Morgan led with a 43, followed by Tatum Pruitt with a 44 and CeCe Forman shot a 53.
"The highlight of the match was back-to-back birdies in near darkness from Sydney Morgan and Tatum Pruitt on their final hole of the day," Parker said.
Morgan and Pruitt are leading in the one and two spots respectively, according to Parker.
The remaining varsity spots are filled by Forman, Addie Huthwaite and Alexis Matheson.
"We are less than a month into the season, but I am proud of our girls with their improvement," he said.
The boys and girls teams faced Chestatee High School at Chicopee Golf Course on March 15, but results were not available as of press time.
