More than 40 young ladies attended a basketball fundamental camp held last week at Rock Creek Sports Complex.

Coach Tina Brown has been the director of the camp for several years. Brown commented about the camp: “This year was very successful. The girls really learned some basic fundamentals and improved as the week progressed.”

Fundamentals such as ballhandling, shooting, dribbling, defense and lay-ups were stressed throughout the week. The campers were divided into appropriate age groups.

Coaches drilled each camper in specific exercises set up throughout both gyms at the complex. Each camper was encouraged to try each drill and get better as the week went along.

Fun games were also introduced to the campers. There were competitions for free throws, hot shot, and one-on-one. Teams were divided up equally depending on each camper’s age group.

On Thursday, an awards ceremony celebrated the accomplishments of each future Lady Tiger. Each participant received a T-shirt.

Special awards were given to several basketball players. The best camper award went to Tabitha Morrison. Winning the hot shot award were Ashley Parker and Brandi Jo Hafermalz. Getting trophies for making the most free throws during the week were Kacie Bearden and Brandi Jo Hafermalz. The one-on-one winners were Ashley Parker and Brandi Jo Hafermalz.

“I think the camp went very well,” said Brown. “I really look forward to seeing these young ladies progress next year and hopefully they can take something they learned from here and use it.”

This years’ staff consisted of Steve Sweat, Tina Brown, Frank Brown, Nichole Gilleland, Jonathan Tinsley and Steven Moates.
