Chase Elliott finished seventh in Saturday's Hisense 200 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Dover International Speedway.

It was Elliott's series leading 22nd top-10 finish, leapfrogging him over Ty Dillon for sole possession of second place in the championship standings.

Elliott trails Chris Buescher by 24 points with five races remaining in the 2015 season.

JR Motorsports driver Regan Smith led once for 80 laps on his way to his sixth career NXS victory.

Elliott started the 200-lap race from his owner's points position of sixth-place and would power inside the top-five by lap two.

The NAPA crew executed prompt stops and kept Elliott up front all afternoon long.

A 33-minute red flag froze the competition and Elliott would wait it out in the fifth position on pit road.

Elliott still managed a seventh-place finish, one position better than Buescher for a solid points day.

"I thought my team did a really good job with the circumstances this weekend considering the weather at Dover," Elliott said. "Unfortunately we just didn't have enough gas to run the closing laps really hard."
