With summer heating up, the Dawsonville Racers are hitting the pool. But the team needs help from the community to keep its swimmers taking laps.

The Racers are holding their inaugural Bikinis and Barbells competition fundraiser from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. on July 12.

The cost is $60 per two person team, with all of the proceeds going to help to purchase much needed equipment for the Dawsonville swim team.

"The swim team would like to get the word out about the upcoming competition and encourage those who would like to participate to sign up, come out and enjoy a challenging partner fitness competition as well as support the local swim team," said Molly Dare, whose daughter Brooke has helped with the team for the past three years. "We are looking forward to a successful competition year."

The swim team offers an opportunity for both boys and girls to swim competitively against their peers in a positive environment.

Stephanie Morgan has been the swim team's Head Coach since 2005. Dare is the Assistant Coach and has been a competitive swimmer on the team for the last 12 years.

The fundraiser will be split up into three events with multiple divisions broken down into gender and aptitude.

Check in for the event is at 7:30 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, located at 186 Recreation Road in Dawsonville.
