For the second week in a row the biggest upset in college football came on Friday night as Arizona State beat No. 15 California. The 24 – 17 victory came after the Sun Devils scored 10 fourth-quarter points and stopped the Golden Bears on a fourth down conversion with two minutes left in the game and ended California’s best season start since 2015.

The most surprising result of the weekend came out of Charlotte, North Carolina where the No. 1 Clemson Tigers held-off a surprisingly tough Tar Heels team for a 21 – 20 victory to remain undefeated, but with serious doubts as to their national ranking.

As Trevor Lawrence’s sophomore slump continues, the race for the Heisman Trophy suddenly looks very different one-third of the way into the season. Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa, who has now thrown 23 touchdowns versus zero interceptions, is still the clear favorite, but a pair of former SEC quarterbacks in Jalen Hurts and Justin Fields, have jumped squarely into the mix.

Hurts, formerly of Alabama, has led Oklahoma to a 4 – 0 record with 1,295 passing yards and 12 touchdowns. Fields, who transferred to Ohio State from UGA, has made the 5 – 0 Buckeyes the team to beat in the Big 10 with 1,092-yards and 16 touchdowns.
