Zane Grey Whelchel, 86, of Dawsonville, died Sept. 18, 2014.

Zane was a lifelong resident of Lumpkin County and attended Etowah Baptist Church in Lumpkin County. He was the owner of Deerfield Ranch Swan Lake in Lumpkin County, and was a self-employed real estate and investment agent.

He was the son of the late Russell and Bessie Lowe Whelchel, and is also preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include his sister-in-law, Madge Whelchel of Dawsonville; devoted employee and friend Stacy Thompson of Dawsonville; nieces, Rhonda Stowers, Brenda Hanson, Martha Elliott Early, Carolyn "Carol" McMahan, Linda Blair; nephews, Bobby Stowers, Clay Melancon; numerous other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Etowah Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.

Rev. John Roden, Rev. C.B. Martin and Rev. Clifford Allen officiated.

Interment followed in the Etowah Baptist Church Cemetery.

Banister Funeral Home of Dahlonega was in charge of the arrangements.
