Yvonne Thurmond Sanders, 74, of Dawsonville, died Jan. 14, 2013.

Born Sept. 26, 1938, to the late Virgil and Mary Edmondson, she was a lifelong resident of Dawson County.

Yvonne was employed by Sweet-Orr for more than 35 years, after which she worked for the Dawson County School System for 10 years.

An accomplished seamstress, she did sewing in her home for the public.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she loved and was devoted to her community.

She was a member of Juno Baptist Church.

Her first husband, Buster "Bully" Thurmond; daughter, Paula Thurmond Waters; two sisters and two brothers, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband of 21 years, Preston Sanders of Dawsonville; children, Debbie Nahlik, Wanda Hutcheson, Judy and Morris Harris, Jerry "Redbone" Thurmond, Wendy and Chris Honea, all of Dawsonville, Wanda and Donnie Fields of Tennessee; sister and brother-in-law, Brondell and Len Arnold of Canton; grandchildren, Tessa and Tony Kirby, Shannon and Amy Nahlik, Ryan Harris, Chance Wilson, Cruze Hutcheson, Amberly Scott, Donnie Fields Jr., Connie Christina Newman; great-grandchildren, Paige Kirby, Gracie Nahlik, Hudson Nahlik; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Jan. 17 in the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Stephen Wilson and Jason Hamby officiating. Interment followed in the Dawsonville Memorial Gardens.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
