Wynell Simmons, 75, of Dawsonville, died Sept. 6, 2017.
Born January 19, 1942 in Atlanta to the late Royce and Opal Sweatman, she lived most of her life in Dawson County.
Wynell was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking, travel and caring for her family. She was a member of Pleasant Union Baptist Church.
Her daughters, Tammy Loraine Simmons and Kemberly Diane Hallum; and sister, Vera Williams, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, cecil H. “Skeeter” Simmons of Dawsonville; children, Cathy and Raymond Duncan of Dawsonville, Darlene and Tommy “Buckwheat” Davis of Dahlonega, and David Simmons of Dawsonville; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Hilton of Morrow, Carolyn Hardin of Dallas, Carolyn Sweatman of Charlotte, NC; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Marilyn Sweatman of Douglasville, Royce and Carolyn Sweatman of Harrison, Ariz.; various other relatives also survive.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 8 at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Phillip Wehunt and Rev. Tim Bennett officiating. Interment followed in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family received friends from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 7 at the funeral home.
Bearden Funeral Home in Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
