William Thomas "Dub" Burks

William Thomas "Dub" Burks, 82, of Dawsonville, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008.

  

Born in Coweta County, he had lived in Dawson County for 25 years having moved from College Park.

  

Mr. Burks owned and operated Fairfax Electric for a number of years, after which he worked as an inspector for Fulton County until his retirement.

  

He was a member of National Heights Baptist Church, was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II where he served in the Pacific Theater and was also a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict.

  

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Barbara Burks of Dawsonville; children, Richard and Gayle Burks of Whitesburg, Julia and Harry Martin of Rockledge, Fla., Paul and Cindy Burks of Dawsonville, Lynn and Wade Cohran of Riverdale, Barbara and Brooks McCord of Suwanee, Walter and Melanie Burks of Douglasville; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

  

Memorial services will be Saturday, Nov. 22 at noon at Bearden Funeral home Chapel with Dr. William "Bill" Scarbrough officiating.

  

The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 a.m. until the noon at the funeral home.

  

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
