William "Bill" Leonhardt, 70, of Dawsonville, died Nov. 15, 2018.

He was born Sept. 2, 1947 in Jamaica, Queens, N.Y. to Margaret Colgan Leonhardt and William Leonhardt. He grew up in New Hyde Park and Melville, N.Y.

Bill was active in the Dawsonville community serving on the Board of Governors of Athens Boat Club, vice president of the Dawsonville Lions Club and vice president of the Dawson County Friends of the Library. He was active in his church serving as a Shepherd minister, usher and working with Family Promise of Forsyth County.

Growing up on Long Island he was Boy Scout and a volunteer fireman of the Melville Fire Department and on their EMS rescue squad.

His daughter, Andrea Leonhardt, and sister, Kathleen Fardig, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Dianne Stagl Leonhardt; daughter and son-in-law, Stacey Leonhardt-Garbos and Andrew Garbos; son and daughter-in-law, William and Amy Garrett Leonhardt; granddaughters, Katie Garbos, Leyna Leonhardt, Ava Garbos, and Leigha Leonhardt; sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda Leonhardt Ryczak and Albert Ryczak, Carl Fardig, Peter Stagl, Kathryn Stagl, Sharon Stagl Doherty and John Doherty; his granddog Bella, who had a special place in his heart; various other relatives also survive.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 29 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cumming. There will be a gathering following the service at the church.
