Waymon Edward Shirley, 62, of Ellijay, died Oct. 7, 2011.

He was the son of the late John Edward Shirley.

He graduated from Forsyth County High School in 1968 and excelled professionally as a skilled carpenter for more than 35 years.

He was an avid gardener, outdoorsman, motorcycle rider and loving son, husband, father and grandfather.

His wife, Joyce Owens Shirley of Ellijay; son, David and Tammy Shirley of Dawsonville; daughter, Jessica Shirley of Hendersonville, N.C.; mother, Euna Lee Densmore Shirley of Cumming; sisters, Janice and Gary Green of Cumming, Elaine Dodd of Gainesville; brothers, Bobby and Kathy Shirley, John Wayne and Susan, all of Gainesville, Billy and Mary Shirley, Eddie and Rhonda Shirley, all of Cumming, Sammy and Renee Shirley of Gillette, W.Y.; granddaughters, Taylor and Hannah; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Oct. 9 at McDonald and Son Chapel in Cumming. Interment followed at Sawnee View Memorial Garden in Cumming.

McDonald and Son Funeral Home and Crematory of Cumming was in charge of the arrangements.
