Verdell M. Thomas, 81, of Ellijay, died May 10, 2013.

Born May 20, 1931, in Lumpkin County, to the late Frank and Docia Mincey, she had lived in Gilmer County since 2000, having moved from Lilburn.

A devoted wife and mother, she loved gardening and sewing.

Verdell was a member of Nimblewill Baptist Church.

A sister, Bonnie Wishon; and brothers, Johnnie Mincey and Leon Mincey, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Wayne E. Thomas of Ellijay; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Pam Thomas of Lilburn, Keith and Cerena Thomas of Dahlonega; sisters, Nina Moss of Dahlonega, Opal Beaver of Lilburn; six grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. May 14 at the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville with the Dr. Jim Gaines officiating. Interment followed in the Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Young Harris at 3 p.m.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
