Sara L. Sweatte, 88, of Dawsonville, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009.

  

Born March 24, 1921 in Sumter, S.C. to the late John and Elizabeth Lemmon, she had lived in Dawson County 30 years, having moved from Atlanta.

  

A homemaker at her death, Mrs. Sweatte was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, the Dawson County Woman's Club, where she was a former Woman of the Year, Grandmother's Club, Athens Boat Club Birthday Girls and various Bridge Groups where she loved to play and did it well.

  

Sara was a beautiful woman in appearance and behavior and was the perfect example of a true Southern Belle.

  

Her husband, Johnnie E. Sweatte Jr.; and sister, Elizabeth Roberts, preceded her in death.

  

Survivors include her children, Rosalind S. Cram of Lawrenceville, Johnnie E. III "Chip" and Lynn Sweatte of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Kim and Kerry Martin, Kelley and Scott Merriman, Jerry "Jay" P. Cram, Heather and Chris Telley, Johnnie E. "John" Sweatte IV; great-grandchildren, Koby Martin, Kace Martin, Sara Britton Merriman, Lyra Lynn Telley; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and John Leaphart of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Nancy and Dale Jackson of Glen Allen, Va.; various other relatives also survive.

  

Memorial services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19 at the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Gravitt officiating.

  

In lieu of flowers, donations were requested made to the Dawson County Woman's Club, P.O. Box 1401, Dawsonville, GA 30534 or to a charity of your choice.

  

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
