Ruenell Fowler Whelchel, 93, of Dahlonega, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010.

  

Born Feb. 20, 1916 in Lumpkin County to the late Dan and Eula Fowler, she lived a number of years in Atlanta and Smyrna before returning to Dahlonega 30 years ago.

  

She was formerly employed by Atlanta Envelope Company and later was manager of Redford's Store in Smyrna.

  

Her husband, Walter Whelchel; and brother, Kermit Fowler, preceded her in death.

  

Survivors include her sister, Opal Reece of Alpharetta; brothers and sister-in-law, Edwin Fowler of Dahlonega; Lloyd and Pennie Fowler of Dawsonville; sister-in-law, Dorothy Fowler of LaGrange; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16 at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jad Denmark officiating. Interment followed in the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

  

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
