Rita Smith, 66, of Dawsonville, died Jan. 5, 2018.
Born April 6, 1951 in Jefferson City, Tenn., she had lived in Dawson County since 2008 having moved from Stone Mountain. Rita spent most of her adult life as a devoted mother. After her children were grown, she was employed by Motorola for many years after which she worked at Ciba Vision until her retirement. She loved to travel in the mountains and the small town of Cherokee. Mrs. Smith was of the Baptist faith.
Her parents, Ed and Faye Updike, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Terry Smith of Dawsonville; children, Michelle Cherico of Dawsonville, T. D. and Ron Baird of Dawsonville, Charlie Smith of Auburn, Ga.; grandchildren, Blake and Taffiny Cherico, Faye Cherico, Olivia Kinney; great granddaughter, Aubree Cherico; sister and brother-in-law, Rejeana and Barry Hurley of Jefferson City, Tenn.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Donna Updike of Greenville, S.C., Darryl and Sara Updike of Bedford, Va.; her beloved Prissie; and a number of nieces and nephews; various other relatives also survive.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Jan. 8, 2018 in the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Self officiating. Interment followed in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family received friends from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Jan. 7 at the funeral home.
