Richard Danfroth "Dick" Hinkley, 82, of Cumming died July 19, 2017.
Dick was born in Greenfield, Mass., on May 17, 1935, graduated from Greenfield High School, class of 1953, and the University of Massachusetts in 1957 with a B.S. in forestry.
He married his home town sweetheart, Alice Shippey Hinkley and served in the United States Army before moving on to a 10-year career with the United States Forest Service. Dick became interested in flying airplanes, became a licensed pilot and joined Delta Airlines in 1966. He retired after 30 years of service flying for Delta.
Dick first and foremost loved everything about motorcycles and enjoyed many trips with friends and family. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening and his pets.
His parents, Lawrence Hinkley and Mabel Defraine Hinkley; sons, James W. Hinkley and David A. Hinkley; and sister, Marilyn Krupp, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Alice S. Hinkley; daughter, Mary Gail and Mike Britt; son, Jeffrey A. Hinkley; grandsons, David A. Hinkley, Devin Britt; various other relatives also survive.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. July 24 in the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations were requested made in Dick's Memory to The American Cancer Society.
Ingram Funeral Home & Crematory of Cumming was in charge of the arrangements.
