Ray Jarrard, 83, of Dawsonville and formerly of Buford, died July 30, 2011.

His daughter, Connie Renee Jarrard; parents, Thomas R. and Bessie May Carr Jarrard; and a sister, Ruby Jarrard O’Kelley, preceded him in death.

Mr. Jarrard was born Aug. 19, 1927 in Gainesville, Ga. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War.

He was retired from General Motors Plant. He was a member and Deacon Emeritus of the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Kitty Nichols Brogdon Jarrard of Dawsonville; son and daughter-in-law, Eddie Ray and Debbie Jarrard of Sugar Hill; granddaughter, Amber Jarrard; stepsons, Judge Bill Brogdon and wife Julie Brogdon of Snellville and Bobby Brogdon and wife Mary Brogdon of Dawsonville; stepdaughter, Amy Wheeler and husband, Jeff Wheeler of Atlanta; step- grandchildren, William and Leslie Brogdon, Kathryn Brogdon, Mattie Brogdon, Henry Brogdon, Sophie Brogdon, Grace Wheeler, Abigail Wheeler and Clare Wheeler; sister, Robbie Jarrard King of Flowery Branch; nephews, David King of Flowery Branch and Billy O’Kelley of Jefferson; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 1 in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Pirkle and Dr. Jim Gaines officiating. Interment followed at Sugar Hill Cemetery in Sugar Hill with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations were requested made to the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville on the Principal Fund or to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Hospice in memory of Ray Jarrard.

Flanigan Funeral Home and Crematory of Buford was in charge of the arrangements.
