Orvie L. Broadwell, 93, of Dawsonville, died Feb. 26, 2015.

Born March 10, 1921, in Boaz, Ala., to the late Floyd and Lillie Broadwell, he had lived in Dawson County for the past eight years, having moved from Jonesboro.

Mr. Broadwell retired as an engineer with Ford Motor Company after 37 years of service.

He was a member of the Forest Park Lodge F&AM, was a former member of the Kiwanis Club of Forest Park, a former member of the planning board of the Forest Park City Council and was a scout leader of Troup 169 of Forest Park.

Orvie was a Merchant Marine veteran of World War II where he served in the Atlantic Theater and the European Theater.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville and possessed a passion for golf and fishing.

His brothers, Sherman Broadwell and Albert Broadwell, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Elmaneze Broadwell of Dawsonville; sons and daughter-in-law, Tom and Pam Broadwell of Marietta, John Broadwell of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Brandie and Joey Fitzgerald, Lee and Melissa Broadwell, Kirstie Broadwell, Wesley Broadwell; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Varon Johnson of Crossville, Ala.; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. March 2 at the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville with the Dr. Jim Gaines officiating. Interment followed in the Dawsonville Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations were requested made to the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville, P.O. Box 1358, Dawsonville, GA 30534.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
