Onie Bruce

Onie Bruce, 93, of Dawsonville, died Aug. 30, 2016.

Born Oct. 30, 1922 to the late Sanford and Rosie Graham, she was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. Mrs. Bruce was a graduate of Dawson County High School and Perry Business College.

She retired from Dawson County Bank, now United Community Bank, after more than 30 years of service.

Onie was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.

Her husbands, Lamar Owens, who was killed in Italy during World War II, and Gordon Leon Bruce, who she was married to for 59 years; a sister, Ruby Abercrombie; and a brother and sister-in-law, Homer and Lona Nell Graham, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Don Bruce and Lynn Jones, Mike and Jackie Bruce, all of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Tabatha and Ricky Chastain, Bar and Alexa Bruce, all of Dawsonville, Derek and Katherine Bruce of Athens; great-grandchildren, Morgan Chastain, Avett Bruce, Benjamin Bruce; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 1 at Harmony Baptist Church with the Revs. Tony Holtzclaw and Joey Gilbert officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
