1st Sgt. Michael L. Allen, U.S.M.C. retired, 56, of Dawsonville, died June 18, 2010.

  

1st Sgt. Allen was a lifelong resident of Dawson County and retired from the Marine Corps after 21 years of service. He was a graduate of Dawson County where he attained perfect attendance through all 12 years and also had eight years of perfect attendance in Sunday school.

  

He was a very active member of Toys for Tots while serving in the Marine Corps and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Concord Baptist Church.

  

His brother, Scott Allen; sister, Kay Allen; and his grandparents, preceded him in death.

  

Survivors include his daughter and her fiancé, Scarlett Allen and Mark Purdy of Cumming; son, Colt Allen of Kennesaw; grandchild, Jackson Purdy of Cumming; mother, Wilda Pirkle of Dawsonville; father, Loyd Allen of Dawsonville; brothers and sisters, Stanley and Vicky Allen of Dawsonville, Debbie and Tommy Lamb of Cumming, Otis McClain and Lucy Allen of Dahlonega, Tracy and David Britt of Asheville, N.C.; mother of his children, Sherry Allen; special friends, Leroy Harper, Phil Goodson, Kristi Sanders; various other relatives also survive.

  

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. June 22 at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Tommy Lamb and Fred Enlow officiating. Interment followed in the Georgia National Cemetery.

  

In lieu of flowers, donations were requested made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 7020 AC Skinner Pkwy., Suite 100, Jacksonville, FL 32256.

  

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
