Mary Monkus

Mary Monkus, 86, of Dawsonville, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009.

  

Born July 26, 1923 in Whitfield County to the late Tom and Lillie Parker, she had lived in Dawson County for the past 13 years.

  

Mrs. Monkus retired from United Community Bank after more than 20 years of service, was a member of the Dawson Community Chorale, and was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville, where she sang in the choir.

  

Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Ted Monkus of Dawsonville; children, Cindy and Keith Swinford of Cohutta, Barbara and Jerry Dotson, Michael Monkus, Deborah and Allen Foster, all of Ellijay, Billy and Joyce Monkus, Roy Monkus, all of Dawsonville, Fredia and Ronnie Casper of Blue Ridge, Carol and Billy Crumbley of Dahlonega; sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Charles Schievelhud of Dalton; special friend, Regina Waters; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

  

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16 at the First Baptist church of Dawsonville with Dr. Jim Gaines officiating. Interment followed at 2:30 p.m. in the Whitfield Memorial Gardens in Dalton.

  

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
