Marie Elrod, 62, of Dawsonville, died Dec. 6, 2012.

Born March 11, 1950, to the late Fred Sr. and Joy Stephens, she had been a resident of Dawsonville most of her life.

A loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was thought of as a mother to many.

Mrs. Elrod was a member of Rock Hill Congregational Church and was employed by Walmart in Dawsonville where she had enjoyed her job as a cashier since its opening.

Her husband of 37 years, Jerry Elrod; and a brother, Jimmy Stephens, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sons, Jimmy Elrod, Joshua Elrod, Joey Almond, all of Dawsonville; daughters and sons-in-law, Tina Schandera, Tia and Thomas Chastain, all of Dawsonville, Robin Elrod and Michael Stansbury of Flowery Branch; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Kathy Stephens, Alvin and Judy Stephens, Darrell Stephens, all of Gainesville, Terry and Wanda Stephens of Dawsonville; sisters and brother-in-law, Oba Stephens, Patricia and Kent Purkey, Kim Haley, all of Gainesville; mother-in-law, Annie Mae Elrod of Dawsonville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Tammy and Michael Smith of Dawsonville; special friend, Bo Hicks of Gainesville; 21 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Dec. 9 in the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Phillip Wehunt and J.W. Day officiating. Interment followed in the Pleasant Hill Full Gospel Church Cemetery.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
