Lyman Henry Smith, 74, of Dawsonville, died March 9, 2015.

Born March 1, 1941 to the late Glenn E. and Louise Bennett Smith, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County.

He served as a deacon of Liberty Baptist Church for 43 years, was a founding member of the Dawson County Jaycees, was instrumental in the forming and building of the Liberty Volunteer Fire Department, and was honorably discharged from the United States Army Reserves.

His brother, Paul Smith; mother-in-law, Robbie Lee Beasley; and sister-in-law, Peggy Beasley Butler, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Tommie Beasley Smith of Dawsonville; daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Grady Turner of Dawsonville; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Angie Hammond Smith of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Katie Turner of Walled Lake, Mich., Tatum Turner, Tucker Turner, Ethan Smith and Addison Smith, all of Dawsonville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Brenda Smith of Lithonia, Terry and Rita Smith of Dawsonville; sister-in-law, Betty Smith of McDonough; brother-in-law, Henry Butler of Conyers; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. March 12 at Liberty Baptist Church with the Revs. Dennis Bottoms, Stephen Davis and Jerry Frazier officiating.

Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
