Lucille Darnell Whitaker, 90, of Atlanta, died July 5, 2011.

Lucille was born May 5, 1921 in Dawson County to the late John and Mittie Darnell.

Mrs. Whitaker worked for the Southern Bell Telephone Company for 39 years.

She was a loving and devoted mother to her son, Johnny Ray Whitaker, who preceded her in death.

Her sister, Lena Wakefield; and a brother, Howard Darnell, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include her brother, Hobart Darnell of Dawsonville; various other relatives also survive.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. July 9 at the Dawsonville City Cemetery.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
