Loy D. Hughes, 88, of Monroe, died May 16, 2016.

Born Sept. 13, 1927 in Dawson County, to the late Hubert and Era Hughes, he lived many years in Lilburn.

For 35 years, Mr. Hughes served as manager of the S & W Cafeteria on Peachtree Street in Atlanta.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was an active member of the American Legion Post No. 232 in Snellville.

He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.

His brothers, Lamar "Jake" Hughes and Dennis Hughes, also preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Hughes; children, Loy D. Jr. and Sharon Hughes of Monroe, Jerry and Connie Hughes, Arab, Ala., Terrye and Mike Moon of Lynn Haven, Fla.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Douglas Hughes of Dahlonega; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. May 21 in the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jason Hamby officiating. Interment followed in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
