Loy Chester, 88, of Dahlonega, died Feb. 23, 2014.

Born Sept. 23, 1925 in Dawson County to the late Fate and Rachael Chester, he lived most of his life in Lumpkin County. For many years, Mr. Chester worked in the timber industry and farmed. He was a beekeeper and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Loy was a loving husband and father who was devoted to this family.

He was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.

His wife of 60 years, Bertha Lou Chester; eight brothers and a sister, preceded him in death.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Glenda and Perry Weaver, the loving staff at Foothills Assisted Living, and for the loving attention of his nurses.

Survivors include his children, Daniel Chester of Gainesville, Kathy and Junior Stover, Gary and Nicki Chester and Tony and Jan Chester, all of Dahlonega; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 25 in the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. L. C. Bennett and Jimmy Chester officiating. Interment followed in the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
