John Quinten Sapp Jr., 79, of Sugar Hill, died June 16, 2012.

Born in Peoria, Ill., he was the son of the late John Quinton Sapp Sr. and Leola Gardner Sapp.

His beloved wife, Shirley Mae Benson Sapp died in 2004.

John and Shirley met at a dance in Callaway Gardens when he was stationed at Ft. Benning.

He often told his family when he first saw Shirley, he knew "she was the one."

They were married in 1954 and spent 50 years working and living together.

John worked as a hotel bell captain, in the insurance business and finally he and Shirley ran an upholstery business from their home. In later years, they took their upholstery business on the road, serving boat owners on site.

Survivors include their children, Jeff and Beverly Sapp of Carrollton, Tim and Jackie Sapp of Sugar Hill, Sherry and George Cox of Stockbridge and Jon and Randy Sapp of Dawsonville; John's brother, Tom Sapp of Peoria, Ill.; Shirley's sister, Jean Lee of Lannette, Ill; nine grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

Graveside services were held at noon on June 20 at Georgia National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Embracing Hospice House, 8013 Majors Road, Cumming, GA 30041.

McDonald and Son Funeral Home and Crematory of Cumming was in charge of the arrangements.
