J.L. Lawson, 73, of Dawsonville, Lumpkin County, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010.

  

Born Dec. 25, 1936 in Sneedville, Tenn., to the late Dewey and Della Lawson, he had lived in Lumpkin County for the past 20 years having moved from Dawson County.

  

Along with his wife, they owned and operated L & L Trucking Inc.

  

Mr. Lawson served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 16 years and was a veteran of Vietnam.

  

His sisters, Jean Johnson, Juanita Damewood; brother, Ed Lawson; and granddaughter, Michelle Scovil, also preceded him in death.

  

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Barbara Lawson of Dawsonville; children, Chris and Sonya Lawson, Gerald and Wendy Lawson, Joe Lawson, all of Virginia Beach, Va., Teresa and Sam Scovil of California, Carrie and Alan Miller of Savannah; sisters and brother-in-law, Colleen and Jim Wood, Sadie Davidson, all of Luttrell, Tenn.; driving companion, Hero; 14 grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

  

Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15 in the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronald Pruitt officiating. Interment followed in Moss Memorial Gardens.

  

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
