J.L. Evans, 87, of Dawsonville, died May 15, 2017.

Born May 22, 1929 to the late Rufus and Gretell Evans, Mr. Evans was a lifelong resident of Dawson County.

J.L. was formerly employed by Lockheed for a number of years, after which he worked at Sawnee EMC for 20 years until his retirement.

A United States Army veteran and member of Lebanon Baptist church, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Jama Moore Evans; a sister; and six brothers.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Penny Evans of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Jessica and Terry Beck, Kimberly Evans, Luke and Tina Evans; great-grandchildren, Dixie Scruggs, Destiney Ledford, Tori Beck, Clayton Beck, Vincent Beck, Cameron and Becca Hodges; great-great-grandchildren, Colton Hodges, Annabelle Hodges; sisters and brother-in-law, Dessie Westbrook of Dawsonville, Flonnie Westbrook of Marietta, Annell and Jerry Self of Woodstock; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. May 18 in the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Shannon Westbrook and Leonard W. Ridings officiating. Interment followed in the Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
