James Millard Turner, 73, of Dawsonville, died June 21, 2011.

Born Oct. 6, 1937 in Little Rock, Ark. to the late Francis and Mable Turner, he had lived in Dawsonville since 1999, having moved from Dunwoody.

Mr. Turner retired as a system analyst for IBM with 30 years of service. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and was a loving husband, father and devout Christian and member of the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville.

Mr. Turner married in 1960 in Austin, Texas, his wife of 51 years, Martha Beatrice Cain Turner of Dawsonville.

Also surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth James and Martha Alicia Simmons Turner, Robert Michael Turner, all of Atlanta, Johnathan Cutler and Beth Bankston Turner of Barnesville, Christopher Charles and Amanda Abernathy Turner of Norcross; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Turner of Atlanta; sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Ernest Cooke of Hot Springs, Ark.; brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Joanne Turner of Goldsboro, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. June 25 at the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville with the Dr. Jim Gaines officiating. Interment followed at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens at 1:30 p.m.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
