James Michael Lord, 56, of Dawsonville, died Monday, Jan. 25, 2010.

  

Mike was a long time member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Johns Creek.

  

He retired from General Motors after 20 years of service and previously worked for Roswell and Alpharetta police departments, then became a deputy sheriff with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office for the past nine years. He was an Air Force veteran and loved riding his motorcycle for pleasure and helping raise money for charity.

  

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jason Michael Lord and Amber Lord of Dawsonville; granddaughter, Addison Lord of Dawsonville; parents, Marvin and Grace Lord of Cumming; Jason's mother, Georgann Lord of Alpharetta; various other relatives also survive.

  

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28 at First Baptist Church of Cumming with the Revs. Monroe Gunter, Johnny Purcell and Chaplain Keith Lee officiating. Burial followed in Green Lawn Cemetery with police honors.

  

McDonald and Son Funeral Home and Crematory of Cumming was in charge of the arrangements.
